LAKEWAY, Texas (AP) — New Braunfels and Dallas Highland Park defended their titles Saturday and repeated as UIL state team tennis champions at Lakeway World of Tennis.
The New Braunfels Unicorns (24-0) defeated Klein (27-2) 11-2 to capture their third straight state championship in the Class 5A final. The Unicorns also won their 75th consecutive match.
New Braunfels' number one girls player, Lilly Kimbell, won for the fourth straight year and has three straight individual championships.
The Dallas Highland Park Scots (16-0) beat Montgomery (18-4) 10-1 in the Class 4A final to seize their second straight championship. It's their sixth in seven years.
Highland Park has advanced to the state tournament 22 times, winning eleven team championships. Both are UIL records.
The Scots lost to New Braunfels in the 2007 Class 4A finals. The victorious Unicorns were moved up to Class 5A in the UIL realignment for the 2008 tournament.
