PHARR, Texas (AP) — Eleven students including six juveniles are accused of participating in a gang-related riot at a Pharr alternative high school.
The McAllen Monitor reports the students were arrested after Thursday's melee at Buell Central High School which security officers and Pharr police tried to break up.
A Pharr municipal judge charged the adults those 17 or older with riot participation during an arraignment Friday.
A Hidalgo County Jail official, Ruben Hinojosa, told The Associated Press late Monday that 17-year-old Jesus Rosas Rodriguez Jr.; 17-year-old Adam Mendoza Martinez; 18-year-old Edward Sepulveda; 17-year-old Julio Cesar Garcia, and 17-year-old Joe Watts Silguero were charged with riot participation. Some faced additional charges.
Hinojosa said that Garcia had been released on a $15,000 bond while the others remained in custody. He had no attorney information for the suspects.
