Seminar set to help horse owners with drought recovery

Area livestock owners are invited to a Tri County fall educational event Nov. 17, at the Beeville Livestock Commission. The focus will be on drought-recovery strategies for livestock producers.

Residents of Bee, Goliad and Refugio counties are encouraged to attend and learn ways to maintain and recover pastures during and prior to drought, with an emphasis on horse management.

The program is being conducted by the county extension agents of Bee, Goliad and Refugio counties, through the planning efforts of the Copano Bay Watershed Committee.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m., with registration and a free meal at the Beeville Livestock Commission, located mile west of Beeville, on U.S. Highway 59.

At 5:45 p.m., Bret Scott, extension horse specialist, will cover "Issues to consider when caring for horses and pastures after drought."

Emily Moench, extension assistant, will follow with a regional topic: "Do horses really impact water quality in Copano Bay?"

Participants will receive 1 CEU in integrated pest management for their Texas Department of Agriculture private, commercial or non-commercial pesticide licenses.
