Seventeen Victoria schools have earned special recognition from the Texas Education Agency.

The schools were singled out for 45 Gold Performance Acknowledgements based on data related to attendance and TAKS scores.

The majority of the schools earned the acknowledgement because of the large percentage of their students who not only passed but mastered the objectives of the TAKS tests.

There are 13 different categories in which an acknowledgement can be earned at the district level and 15 categories at the campus level.

Middle schools can earn the recognition in eight areas, while elementary schools can earn them in seven areas.

Because the Gold Performance Acknowledgement is not available for districts and campuses rated as academically unacceptable, the district as a whole and Memorial High School were not eligible for recognition this year.

To earn an acknowledgement in attendance, elementary schools must post an overall attendance rate of 97 percent and middle schools at least a 96 percent rate. High schools must post at least a 95 percent rate. Two Victoria schools earned this recognition.

The Commended Performance award is given to campuses where at least 30 percent of all students in all student groups show mastery of the objectives on the TAKS tests. Recognition is available for each of the five tests.

Sixteen schools earned one or more awards for Commended Performance on TAKS tests.

Recognition for Comparable Improvement recognizes a school for showing significant gains in test scores as compared to 39 other campuses around the state with very similar demographics. This award is given to the schools in the Top 10 of the comparison group in terms of gains on either the reading or math TAKS test. Six campuses earned recognition for one or more areas on this level.
