Two Victoria schools were locked down Monday afternoon as officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 1200 block of Rosebud Avenue.

The Victoria Police Department received the call shortly before lunch, said Officer Joseph Felan.

Our Lady of Victory and Shields Magnet School were put in lockdown mode.

Officers searched the area and were not able to locate anything related to the call, Felan said.

Denise Cooper, communications specialist with Our Lady of Victory, said she was only informed to lock classroom doors. She had no details of the incident.

Victoria school district communication specialist Diane Boyett said she was not aware of the lockdown. Officials for Shields could not be reached Monday night.

  • Play...did you misread? The school was locked down. Just because Mrs. Boyett did not know right away does not mean that there was a problem with it. These rules were put in place to protect the children. The having to show ID is because there are many students with a custodial parent and the other parent is not allowed to pick them up from school. Sorry this is not the 60's or 70's anymore where someone can just walk up to a school and say I need to pick up my niece/nephew. They have to show pictue ID and have their name on the emergency release card. This is not done to punish parent, it is done to protect the child.

  • So Victoria PD and VISD can't even lock down schools when needed but parents have to show picture IDs to have lunch with there kids and teachers get photographed and criminal checks run on them. I guess security is only for people who show up. Hmm hmm hmm.
