The 30th Matejek annual reunion was held at the Yorktown Fire Department meeting room on Oct. 25 in Yorktown.
Food was provided by family members, and a short business meeting was held following the meal.
Cody John Ellison, Lucille Matejek Kocian, Frank Fishbeck, Riely and Reese Manning passed away since the last reunion. A time of silence was observed in their remembrance.
A cash prize of $50 was awarded to the following winners: oldest lady, Betty Hemmi of Hallettsville, 87 years; oldest gentleman, Walter Hemmi of Hallettsville, 97 years; youngest child, Hayden Leist of Meyersville, 9 months; longest married couple, Walter and Betty Hemmi of Hallettsville, 59 years; most recently married couple, Nicole and Trandon Leist of Meyersville, 2 years; traveled longest distance, Nancy Bostick of Rock Springs; kids' prize, Hayden Leist of Meyersville; first-time attendance, Joseph and Donna Matejek of Yorktown and the main door prize, Buddy Wolff of Gonzales. Anna Havel of Sweet Home donated three $10 Wal-Mart gift cards: the winners were Ronnie Matejek of Yorktown, Deanna Warwas of Yorktown, and Nicole Leist of Meyersville.
Since this was the 30th annual reunion, a money tree with envelopes containing amounts from $5 to $100 was available for everyone attending to pick from. The winner of the $100 was Anna Havel of Sweet Home.
Next year's reunion will be held at the Yorktown Fire Department meeting room on Oct. 24, 2010.
