CUERO - People who love Cuero's Christmas in the Park holiday light display continue to step up to help ensure the security of the annual event that has been hit hard by vandalism.
Private donors are paying for off-duty police officers to patrol the park after hours. Residents who have volunteered for patrol duty will also be worked into the security duty, said Cuero Police Sgt. James Timpone, who is coordinating the effort. "This gives us some options."
Cuero Police Chief Chris Hernandez said Wednesday that no arrests have been made in the case.
More than $150,000 in damage was done to park exhibits last weekend.
Announcements have been made in the schools concerning the vandalism.
A $2,500 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Posters about the reward have also been posted on Cuero campuses.
Hernandez said three 13-year-old boys have been identified in connection with some minor vandalism that occurred at the park on Wednesday, Nov. 4. No warrants have been issued or charges filed in that incident either.
"We want to talk to the members of the committee and get their input on what to do with them," the police chief said.
Hernandez said his department is getting a lot of telephone calls but "nothing solid yet."
Christmas in the Park is put on through the December Events Committee of the Cuero Development Corporation. This is the 10th year of the event.

Like I said before we can only teach our child right from wrong and we can spank them beat them or even ground them. But when you have two parents that work all day long your kids are going to sneak around and mess up that is what makes them a kid.
November 13, 2009 at 9:52 a.m.I believe that and hope he has learned his lesson..Thank you for the supportive comments..We as parents really do try to do our best..I do also agree that we are limited on our discipline with our children these days..I can remember as a child our parents mentioned paddle or belt and we didn't speak another word..I hope they also find out who was responsible for the Saturday night mess also..
November 12, 2009 at 11:36 p.m.here we are again with Mothers and their Boys! I have a teenager boy who isn't a saint. But he is a Good boy. Boys don't think when they get together. When I hear parents blaming their own kids actions on some other kid,, I say wait a minute. Do you know what you teach your kids with that kind of action? I see alot of that around here. You teach them not to take responsibilty for their own actions. Also, I would like to make a statement about Kids whom Parents think they are good..I live on 100 acres, Last week we had some kids out on the property behind us, got stuck in the mud foolin around, called other friends and they got stuck, eventualy three NICE NEWER Trucks Mind you and a tracker all stuck in this mud. New vehicles that THESE PARENTS BUY THESE GOOD KIDS.. mind you! As they are out here making all this racket and where are the parents????? I guess they are at church! Because these boys are on the footballl team , they are "good Kids" with $50,000 trucks to ruin. So please don't judge what kids wear or who they are hanging with.. It doesn't matter these days.
November 12, 2009 at 11:22 p.m.Wow! Stopping on this thread and reading these posts was the biggest mistake I've made all week.
November 12, 2009 at 2:58 p.m.Okay- First of all Pearl you need to do a reality check.. What rights do you have to preach about GOD when you yourself dont seem to know the meaning. A True christans gives forgiveness. A Quote from the Bible:Mark 11:25
November 12, 2009 at 1:06 p.m.And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.
Sometimes it just doesnt matter how much you teach a child right from wrong the are going to mess up that is the whole point of teaching these are 13 year old boys that got out of hand, so before fussing at cuerogobblersrock It took alot of courage to come on here and say her son was wrong. So learn FORGIVINESS.... They are still kids and to lock them up is really harsh...
Tick Tock, Tick Tock, Tick Tock

November 12, 2009 at 9:56 a.m."HIGH SCHOOL VANDALIZED?" I was told last nite by a construction worker that is working at the Victoria East High School Campus that when they got to work "alot" of the newly installed windows had been busted out and there was a mess all over......I have been looking for something about this in the news but not a word has been said... has anybody else heard anything? I thought this vandalism might be related to the Cuero incident, if it occurred.
November 12, 2009 at 9:23 a.m.Allow those kids to give back to the community. They messed up, we all do. Like cuerogobblersrock said, his/her son has never been in trouble by the law. You can't just assume that all kids wearing baggy pants are "thugs".
Allow these kids to give back to the community by having them help fix what they broke and maybe have them volunteer 3 days a week at the park. This will help them understand they can be a good citizen and they are worth something.
Locking them up won't do nothing for them. Lets help teach these kids what it means to be a good, loyal member to the community.
November 12, 2009 at 9:18 a.m.cuerogobblersrock - I commend you for allowing your son to face the music! Let law enforcement make a believer out of him now instead of later.
flickinglizzard - I agree that the vast majority of these kids that are committing these types of crimes are in need of a serious butt whipping like we got when we were kids. The problem with that is now days it is a big no-no unless you want big problems yourself.
I don't care how good of a parent you are and how well you keep tabs on your children, parents cannot control every move their kids make. However, they should be supportive of the punishment that comes with the action of their children when they choose to commit crimes.
November 12, 2009 at 8:40 a.m.I agree it's not always the Parents Fault but the majority of the time you can blame the parents for lack of discipline, But it's the baggy pants thugs they hang with thats the problem bad kids get good kids in trouble. Oh I forget the times when I raised my kids a good whipping did wonders but today they would rather get you for child abuse rather than making your kids mind. Oh and the baggy pants thugs need a foot in the crack they show maybe they will pick the pants up then you think? It's a shame they destroy the light scenes the people work so hard to put up. When they find who did it take them out behind a building and give them a good old fashioned butt kicking but then again you may be put away for violating the rights of thug's.
November 12, 2009 at 6:59 a.m.First of all Redneck you can't always blame parents..For one..My son was one of the ones out there on Wed night was I out boozing it up? NO I was at church..My son is 14 never been in trouble except at school for petty things and had just gotten in trouble that day of us finding this out and was grounded..He is being punished by us and we told them to punish his to the extent of the law..So before you go running your mouth about parents and what they are doing, no something first..I left him doing lots of homework and then find out he did that, after I am one of the ones griping that morning when I read in paper..I am a good parent, don't booze it or anything..We just work hard to raise our kids the best we can..I am sure you will disagree for one cause you don't know me but for him to do this yes it hurts me bad..But it is being handled and I want no mercy shown to him at all..Again don't bad mouth parents when they are out working hard and going to church..
November 11, 2009 at 10:51 p.m.What to do with the 13 yr old boys/ Lock them and their parents up. What are 13 year old boys doing out on a Wednesday night alone, or any other night? Geez, where are the parents, drugging and boozing while their kids run wild.
