Turning 50 is a huge milestone and as such, Devereux-Victoria is celebrating their 50th anniversary with a bang.

On Nov. 20, Devereux is throwing their "A Record Five Decades of Service" anniversary celebration with an aptly-themed 1950's-style party. The nonprofit organization will be turning the One O'Connor Plaza Pavilion into a 1950's-style diner, complete with jukeboxes, booths and antique cars and motorcycles, Sandra Neely, Devereux-Victoria's senior development officer, said.

"It's going to be a fun night," she added. "We're encouraging people to dress up in their poodle skirts and leather jackets, and we just want people to come out and help us celebrate."

The music for the evening will be provided by local band Touch of Gold, who will be playing golden oldies and the food provided will be 1950's diner fare with a cosmopolitan touch, Neely added. In addition, there will also be a silent auction with numerous items that are unique to Devereux, such as client art, Devereux Gardens goodies, flower arrangements and landscaping packages.

All the money raised from the event will go back to the Dr. George A. Constant Endowment Fund to help Devereux continue their mission, Neely said. Devereux-Victoria is dedicated to providing effective and outstanding care to individuals with emotional, developmental, educational and cognitive disabilities, according to their mission statement.
