FREMONT, Neb. (AP) — A Texas educator with ties to Fremont and Midland Lutheran College has been named the Fremont school's president.

Dr. Benjamin Sasse (SASS) will assume the post in spring 2010. He's an assistant professor at the University of Texas in Austin.

Sasse will be taking over from interim president Stephen Fritz. President Steven Titus left the school in 2007.

College spokesman Phil Carter said Wednesday that the college trustees waited the two years so they could take stock of the school and decide who best to lead once they determined its future path.

Sasse's resume includes a stint as an assistant secretary for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Sasse attended Fremont High School. He earned his doctorate at Yale.
