A three-car chain reaction wreck on North Navarro Street caused a second two-car wreck as a motorist tried to avoid the first wreck, officials said.
Two people were injured.
The first wreck occurred at 6:18 p.m. Thursday in the 3700 block of North Navarro.
The collision started when a 29-year-old Port Lavaca man failed to brake in time, said Joe Valadez, senior patrol officer. The driver hit the line of cars at the stop light at the intersection with Crestwood Street.
The second collision occurred a few yards back, when the driver of a Suburban tried to avoid the first wreck, but did not brake in time, he said.
A small passenger car struck the Suburban, the officer said.
The wrecks delayed traffic for 45 minutes.
Valadez said a 59 year-old Victoria women, who was driving red Nissan four door was taken to Citizens Medical Center. She was in the middle car.
A 45-year-old Cuero man driving a silver Mitsubishi four-door was in the front car. He was not injured.
In the second wreck, Valadez said, it appeared the Suburban was driving too close and was unable to break in time.
A woman involved in the second collision was taken to a local hospital.
Officer Clay Feather investigated the second wreck.
Both wrecks remain under investigation.

If you would read the story it said still under investigation. And how does anyone know how many tickets are given out, unless you work for the PD. It's easy for some to sit back and complain about everything. For all the people that like to complain about the police officer, Go to the police academy and then you can pull over all the bad drivers and give them tickets, that way the other cops can focus on the murderers and sex offenders.
November 21, 2009 at 1:24 p.m.I avoid Navarro street like the plague. I travel in cities all over Texas and this street is one of the worst. The light timing is not bad if you are going north and south, but try to stop at a convenience store for fuel and then get back on. Knowing how to cut through neighborhoods and parking lots is a must. City planners need to do some "rethinking" on this street.
November 13, 2009 at 4:32 p.m.I am in awe of how lousy the drivers in Victoria are. Most only look in one direction when at an intersection, run the stop signs, red lights and speed. I dread driving in this town that has no patrol officers that issue citations. The people that caused this particular incident will probably get away without a citation. Most should have their driver's licenses revoked.
