The Victoria College Student Government Association is hosting the Region VI Conference of the Texas Junior College Student Government Association.
The conference started Friday and ends Saturday.
The conference is held in partnership with the Student Activities Office.
The region includes The Victoria College, Southwest Texas Junior College - Del Rio, Texas State Technical College-Harlingen, Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Coastal Bend College-Beeville, San Antonio College and Southwest Texas Junior College-Eagle Pass.
The region's parliamentarian and treasurer positions are held by the VC Student Government Association. VC's SGA president, Johnathan Sixtos, also serves as chair on the regional legislative committee.
Regional conferences bring together student government officers, along with their advisors, from the member colleges to prepare for the statewide convention held each spring.
The meeting is used to conduct regional business and attend breakout sessions on such topics as advanced parliamentary procedures and community service opportunities.
State Rep. Geanie Morrison was the keynote speaker for the Friday night welcome dinner.
Saturday begins with breakfast and includes morning and afternoon breakout sessions given by community leaders such as Chamber of Commerce President Randy Vivian, VC Board Member Charla Borchers Leon and VC's vice president of student services, Florinda Correa. The day also includes a general assembly in the dining area of the VC Student Center to conduct regional business.
