The driver of a late-model Chevrolet Impala fled on foot in a neighborhood in Telferner on Thursday night after a chase on U.S. Highway 59, Department of Public Safety Trooper Henry Schultz said.
While searching the vehicle, Schultz found several components believed to be used to make methamphetamines.
Schultz took the passenger into custody, but he was released with no charges filed.
The Impala was a rental car with Virginia license plates.
Anyone with information on where the driver is asked to contact Victoria Crime Stoppers, 361-572-4200.

bubbles,
Perhaps I should be taken into "protective custody" like the Gestapo used to do with dissenters.

Sure they make all kinds of medications that give people "religious" experiences that make them see Jesus in a pretzel, or blood oozing from a statue, and endow someone with special powers to communicate with a diety. At least the medication can explain it at times, but when someone is not taking drugs and sees that stuff, it makes me wonder about their mental stability.
November 17, 2009 at 2:04 p.m.The rule of law seems to constantly be at peril in these forums by the advocates of some kind of biblical or Sharia kind of justice advocated from time to time in here. I'm sure there is no malevolent intention but it just grates on me when I hear all these vigilante ideas about justice. I quit the church long ago because of the hypocrisy I saw. The church working with evil regimes have a long and rich history. One off the many, the Reichskonkordat between the Holy See and Adolph Hitler sticks out to me. Gleichschaltung, meaning "coordination", "making the same", "bringing into line",was characterized by the systematic elimination of non-Nazi organizations that could potentially influence people, such as trade unions and political parties. A lot of the blogs and comments in these forums sound vaguely similar to me. Start mixing your religion with the rule of law and you get in quick sand in a hurry. An independent judiciary along with a free press protects us all, they are not the problem. A police state is a problem.

November 15, 2009 at 1:42 p.m.For all of you people cutting down the police. Where is your badge? I don't see you running in the night after someone who may have a gun.

November 14, 2009 at 12:46 p.m.Oops. That was supposed to be defy VEGAS odds. Sorry 'bout that. Jones is right about aiming for center mass. There should also be ENOUGH gun to do the job. The .45 has always been my favorite but the new .40 and 10MM are also potent. While I haven't seen it is a news story, I'd bet the Fort Hood shooter was cut down by 9MM ball rounds. He was shot several times at relatively close range with good light and he survived. A .40, .45 or 10MM with hollow point loads would almost certainly have done him in.
Jones, that crack about me getting something right about the cops FOR A CHANGE was cheap. These cops chasing the bad guy were doing their job against real criminals and doing it well. They used excellent judgement. They weren't targeting innocent people who happened to break some insignificant law and they weren't out to make money for the city. In this case they were doing good work and should be commended for it -- especially for NOT shooting blindly in a residential neighborhood. Unlike some, I can recognize good police work AND also recognize when they're using their considerable power over civilians to intimidate them for fun and profit.

There are just too many laws on the book.
Land of the free my foot.

I have always wondered when buying legal stuff at Home Depot or Lowe's and the pharmacy might be grounds for an arrest? It just seems kind of odd that you can buy some stuff and then get stopped with it in your car and be arrested for having bomb making or drug manufacturing stuff.

With all due respect, I saw nothing in the article itself that would suggest this, so I assume you're referring to the posts on this web site. Sure, they're a bunch of crybabies, but what's the alternative? Deleting anything the staff disagrees with? Surely you don't want that. I say let 'em shoot their silly mouths off. That way I have a better idea of who to ignore.

Ain't gonna happen -- at least not with a handgun. What you're talking about would be possible with a good rifle/scope combination, shooting from a rest and probably at a target standing still. Shooting a pistol or revolver at a running man and trying to "wing'em" while you're running also would defy Vegan odds of breaking the house. This time I'm on the side of the cops. Wild shooting at night is a recipe for disaster. Unlike on TV, bullets WILL find something to hit, whether it's the ground, a tree, or somebody's house where it can penetrate a window and perhaps hit somebody's kid inside. Wild, indiscriminate shooting is NOT something I'd want a cop to risk. I don't care if the guy he's chasing is running from an armed robbery where he shot some store clerk. Rule number one of shooting -- know your target. If you can't identify where the bullet is going, DON'T SHOOT.

November 14, 2009 at 9:32 a.m.Chasing someone in the nightime on foot would seem hard for anyone, and keep in mind that person might have a gun. I would never want our police to take a chance and get killed over a crack head. Instead of judging can you think of a better idea to stop a high speed chase? But think hard, if you shoot at the car, or run it off the road then the city could be sued, and keep in mind the expense, you know the city has a budget. So while you judge at least come up with a helpful creative idea that could assit our officers. So far the officers have the car, and the passenger, and more than likely they will catch this guy, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to stop the high speed chase other than shooting a tracking dart, but I doubt that would work.
