WHARTON - Police continue investigating leads from a Sunday shooting that injured two people.

Just after midnight, a Wharton man and woman were outside the Rosewood Club in the 200 block of Wilkes Street when the shooting occurred, said Wharton Police Capt. Richard Coleman.

The Wharton man and woman, whom Coleman did name, are in their 20s. The man was shot in his upper body and the woman was shot in the leg, Coleman said.

Coleman said a shooting like this is not an everyday occurrence.

"It doesn't happen frequently," he said. "I hate it when someone's injured. That's a terrible thing and of course we don't want anything to happen like that in the city. It's troublesome."

The man was airlifted to Herman Hospital in Houston and is in critical condition, Coleman said.

Although, several people witnessed the incident, police have yet to arrest a suspect.

Police ask anyone with information to contact the Wharton Police Department at 979-532-3131.
