FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) — University of Alaska Fairbanks administrator Bernice Joseph is one of five finalists to be the new president of Alaska Pacific University.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports she is the only in-state candidate to lead the private Anchorage university.

For the past three years she has been vice chancellor for rural, community and Native education at UAF.

APU has about 570 full-time and 200 part-time students in a a half-dozen academic programs.

One of the other finalists is Don Bantz, academic vice president and provost at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash.
