GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) — C.M. Russell High School senior Derek Lair has signed a letter of intent to swim at the University of Utah.
Lair says he chose the Salt Lake City school over the University of Wyoming and Minnesota-St. Cloud because of the team, coaching staff and the school's academic programs.
Lair expects to compete in the sprint freestyle and individual medley events for the Utes, a member of the Mountain West Conference.
As a junior, Lair set state records in winning his second straight state Class AA titles in the 100 freestyle and the 200 individual medley.
At Utah, Lair joins former Missoula Sentinel standout Major Robinson, who won four consecutive state Class AA titles in the 100-yard backstroke between 2005-08.
