  • Coming soon, an in depth look at the first freshman applicant to the University of Houston-Victoria.

Now the applications can start rolling in.

On Tuesday, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, which gives accreditation to most universities in Texas, approved the University of Houston-Victoria to admit underclassmen and offer lower division courses.

UHV made applications for freshmen available on Monday, and as of Tuesday morning, three applications had already been received, said Trudy Wortham, UHV registrar.

The first freshman application received, in UHV history, was from Brittany Gaines, a high school senior from Clear Lake City.

"This is a huge milestone for UHV," said UHV President Tim Hudson.

The state legislature approved making the university a four-year institution during its last session in the spring.
