Editor, the Advocate:
I disagree with Larry Rose's letter lamenting the "lack of Advocate coverage" of the Fort Hood shootings. He fails to understand the nature of what newspapers are facing today. The story had already been covered over and over and over again on network news, cable news and the Internet. Oftentimes, when I see such a story in the newspaper - a story that has been covered ad nauseam - I don't read it because I already know all the details (for example, the "Balloon Boy" story). Perhaps the editors at The Advocate are wise enough to realize this. Newspapers today have to deal with "news saturation" as best they can.
Covering local news is one of the jobs of a local newspaper. Rose uses the example of the recent cemetery tour as something not worthy of coverage, yet I found the article very interesting, and I read it knowing I would not be seeing that story anywhere else. He also belittles a recent Aprill Brandon article. I will read anything that girl writes. She is very talented. I encourage The Advocate to continue covering local events, local organizations and local people.
