A 62-year-old woman, walking to a convenience store, was struck by a car Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Ben Jordan Street and Lone Tree Road.

Delia Hinojosa was crossing the street when a 2003 Mercury Sable turning on to Ben Jordan hit her, said senior patrol officer Shane Wallace.

The driver of the car, Margaret Lipscomb, 66, of Victoria, told officers that Hinojosa was outside the pedestrian crosswalk.

After an on-scene investigation, Wallace said the driver would still be at fault because Hinojosa was still crossing within the intersection.

Hinojosa was treated and released from Citizens Medical Center for treatment.

  • I'll agree the article is very sketchy, it does make it sound like the driver hit the lady because she wasn't in the crosswalk. It could mean she wasn't expecting a pedestrian to be where she was... I don't know.

I will say there has been times where I had to pull evasive actions to avoid hitting pedestrians that are either not paying attention or think they have the right of way and you gotta stop. Once I was driving south on Navarro and there were three boys crossing in front of me from the Sonic, two darted across but the third actually slowed down like he was challenging me to see if I would hit him!!

Although pedestrians have the right of way you need to take some kind of responsibility!! Even if the smallest car hits you, your going to get the short end of the deal!!

  • Exactly....seems she would have said she didn't see her, not that she was outside the pedestrian crosswalk. If that is really the case, the driver is a menace to society & needs to be in jail for assault with a deadly weapon!

  • Seriously, what with all the people getting hit with cars?

The wording of this article makes its seem like the woman used "being outside the crosswalk" as an excuse. Did she see her or not - that is the most important question.

  • I am so sorry, but this article has me laughing so hard. I really do hope the injured lady is ok. But, I do have to say...I have heard all of the excuses now...lol

In fact, I am laughing at the Victoria Advocate tonight regarding other news...

  • It was sarcasm people!!!!! C'mon, the article made it sound like the lady in the car used the fact that she was out of the pedestrian crosswalk as an excuse to hit her! She didn't say she didn't see her, just that she was outside the "boundaries"....that is no excuse to hit someone, that was my point. geez.......
