A memory card filled with nude pictures and explicit images led to the arrest of a 21-year-old Victoria man Thursday.
Benjamin W. Gibbs was arrested on two warrants, one charging him with 54 counts of possession of child pornography and the other charging him with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
Gibbs was dating the 14-year-old girl who was the subject of the pictures and the victim of the assaults, according to the complaints.
Gibbs, who was 20 at the time, and the girl sent each other nude pictures via text messages, according to an affidavit prepared by Victoria County Sheriff's Office investigator Cris Barker. Some photos also showed the girl engaging in oral sex, according to the affidavit.
Gibbs' stepmother found the photos when she put the memory card they were stored on in her cell phone, according to the affidavit.
In interviews with the Victoria Police Department, the girl, who is now 15, said she had consensual sex with Gibbs four times. She also said she loved Gibbs and did not want him to get in trouble. The police and the sheriff's department cooperated on the case.
Gibbs turned himself in at the Victoria County Sheriff's Office shortly after noon Thursday. He is awaiting arraignment.
Each warrant will have a bond of $40,000, Justice of the Peace Robert Whitaker said.
