Wet shoes cause man to drive into cleanersAn 88-year-old Victoria man drove his 2000 Chevrolet Suburban into Royal Cleaners on Friday morning.
The man said the soles of his shoes were wet from the rain and his foot slipped off the brake, Travis Hanson, senior traffic patrol officer, said.
The car went into the cleaners up to the hood of the car, he said.
No one was injured and the car was removed.
A city inspector found the back half of the cleaners at Mockingbird Lane and John Stockbauer Drive safe and able to operate.
The cleaners will continue to operate through the back.
"People can still come and pick up their clothes," said Lisa Hernandez, cashier.
The man's 81-year-old wife was also in the vehicle, the officer said.

I love old people.... but I love them more when they care for their own safety and the safety of others, including MINE. How many RECENT "drive thru-s" has Victoria had in the past three months where senior citizens have driven into buildings? I see a nasty and dangerous pattern here. I would gladly take and chauffeur grandma or grandpa to and from their daily errands! Is there not a law about age limits for driving driving? Maybe required testing at a certain age to check for reflex speed and hand and eye coordination? Advocate: Can we have a front page story/investigation into Texas driving laws and reaction response times of those who may be impaired by disability and/or age factors? Maybe Victoria's Transit System could do us all a great service and offer FREE bus rides to all persons who are "card carrying Senior citizens"... Their slogan could be, " Over Sixty-Five, let us drive"!
BTW, I am hovering at the "nearly sixty" mark, but I'll gladly let you take me for a ride! Now!!
