Notes: Calhoun (8-3) is coming off a 38-3 bi-district win over Uvalde, and Mercedes (8-3) captured a 35-14 win over Tuloso-Midway. Calhoun and Mercedes will meet for the third time in the last two seasons and all three games have been at neutral sites. Calhoun won 54-26 in the 2008 Texas Football Kickoff Classic at the Alamodome in San Antonio, and took a 28-17 win in this year's season opener at Corpus Christi Calallen. Calhoun's Brandon Sanders has rushed for 1,081 yards and 22 touchdowns, and Michael Mullins has rushed for 1,009 yards and 10 touchdowns. The winner advances to regional against the winner of Friday's Austin McCallum-Schertz Clemens game.

Yoakum Bulldogs vs. Brookshire Royal FalconsTime and location: 7 p.m., Memorial Stadium, Victoria
Notes: Yoakum (6-5) is coming off a 22-13 bi-district win over La Vernia, and Royal (6-5) captured a 40-21 win over Giddings. Yoakum is making its second consecutive area appearance and is seeking to advance to regional for the first time since 2002 when it made it to the quarterfinals. Yoakum's Trey Hights has rushed for 1,508 yards and 25 touchdowns. The winner advances to regional against the winner of Friday's Pearsall-Sinton game.

Edna Cowboys vs. La Grange LeopardsTime and location: 7 p.m., Ricebird Stadium, El Campo
Notes: Edna (8-2) is coming off a 54-40 bi-district win over Luling, and La Grange (9-2) captured a 48-27 win over Sweeny. Edna's win over Luling was its first playoff victory since 1992. Edna has not advanced past the area round since making it to the semifinals in 1991. La Grange's Josh Schneider has passed for 2,947 yards and 30 touchdowns, Brandon Wilkerson has 73 receptions for 1,253 yards and 21 touchdowns, and Corbin McHazlett has 70 catches for 718 yards and six touchdowns. Edna's Kam Jones has passed for 1,745 yards and 12 touchdowns and rushed for 1,161 yards and 13 touchdowns. The winner advances to regional against the winner of Friday's Devine-Mathis game.
Class 1A, Division I Regional
Yorktown Wildcats vs. Junction EaglesTime and location: 6 p.m., Heroes Stadium, San Antonio
Notes: Yorktown (9-2) is coming off a 33-32 bi-district win over Ben Bolt, and Junction (7-4) captured a 56-27 win over Brackettville. Yorktown has advanced to the second round for the first time since 2004. Seven of Yorktown's nine wins have been by eight points or less. Yorktown's Erin Barefield has passed for over 1,600 yards and 21 touchdowns, and Jayden Barefield has 17 touchdown receptions. Jayden Barefield returned an interception on an extra-point attempt 102 yards for two points against Ben Bolt. The winner advances to the quarterfinals against the winner of Friday's Shiner-Goldthwaite game.
Class 1A, Division II Area
Louise Hornets vs. Chilton PiratesTime and location: 2 p.m., Elgin
Notes: Louise (4-6) had a bi-district bye, and Chilton (7-2) is coming off a 31-30 win over Thrall. Louise is no stranger to close games as nine of its 10 games have been decided by 13 points or less. Louise won its last three games to clinch a playoff berth for the second time in three years. Louise's Desmond Pulliam has rushed for 1,006 yards and 14 touchdowns. The winner advances to regional against the winner of Friday's Mason-Falls City game.

Ganado Indians vs. Bartlett BulldogsTime and location: 7 p.m., Rutledge Stadium, Converse
Notes: Ganado (6-4) had a bi-district bye, and Bartlett (8-2) captured a 30-27 win over Bosqueville. Ganado is hoping for a repeat of last season when it had to win its last district game to make the playoffs before advancing to the semifinals. Ganado's Josh Labay has rushed for 1,396 yards and 13 touchdowns, Kevin Smith has rushed for 646 yards and 10 touchdowns, and Donovan Foster has rushed for 553 yards and seven touchdowns and passed for 392 yards and six touchdowns. The winner advances to regional against the winner of Friday's La Pryor-Bruni game.
