Editor, the Advocate:
Once in a while, something happens that just must be acted on.
While proceeding south on U.S. Highway 77 north of Victoria, we had a blowout on our fifth wheel. The tire had wrapped itself around the axle, and, as I had rotator cuff surgery, I was struggling with a way to "outsmart" the tire to get it off.
Along came Wayne Hunt and James (?) - I did not write down the last name - of the Jackson County commissioners and a terrific Hispanic man who worked until the spare tire was on. In addition, they called five tire shops until they found one with the correct size tire. None of the people would accept a "gratuity" of any kind for their services.
We made our destination that night about three hours late. This was a wonderful feeling since we were looking at other options without their help.
I ask you to publish this letter to let others know there are still acts of genuine kindness out there and to give them our heartfelt thanks for all they did!
Darrell and
Vera Largen,
