THUMBS UP

This is a thumbs up for Coach Whitaker and the Calhoun Sandcrabs on their District and Bi-District championships. They will take on Mercedes in Kingsville Saturday night, and we wish them all the best.

Go Sandcrabs!

Mike, Seadrift

Thumbs up: Great job on being 30-4A District Champs! Thumbs up to the Calhoun Sandcrabs for winning against the Uvalde Coyotes on the first round of the playoffs. Good luck next week. Go Crabs!

Gina and Rene, Port Lavaca

Thumbs up to the Golden Corral on Navarro, which pulled out the red carpet for area veterans for the ninth year. The vets' uniforms, caps, braids and medals were very colorful. The food was delicious, and the vets were treated as royalty.

The manager and staff are to be highly commended for their efforts again this year.

Alan (Mr. B), Victoria

THUMBS DOWN

Thumbs down on the proof reader of the Victoria Advocate for missing the wrong answer for Saturday's Sudoku puzzle.

Mary, Victoria

Thumbs down to the businesses that have mutilated American and Texas flags flying from their flag poles.

It's offensive to this great American!

I called one business on Houston Highway, and they haven't done anything about it.

Bernadette, Inez

Thumbs down to the Victoria Advocate for publishing photographs of tortured and slaughtered animals in the sports section.

Shirley, Goliad

Thumbs down to the recent TV show of the Country Music Awards.

I have been a fan of country music for more years than I care to remember. I watched three hours of this show and heard about three songs that I would call country music.

The rest were, well, I'm not sure what they were - not country, for sure. I hate to see all the old performers go, as it looks like the new ones are more into another style music.

I'm not sure when country music died, but I do miss it.

Larry, Victoria

Thumbs down to the lack of suicide prevention information or the subject itself in the Victoria Advocate.

Nov. 21 is National Suicide Survivors Day. Please recognize this tender day. Thank you. Come out of the darkness.

Jennifer, Victoria
