Cuero's Christmas in the Park holiday light display will be open from 6-10 p.m. nightly through New Year's Day.

To get to the display, from U.S. Highway 87, turn onto Fain McDougal Drive and follow the nutcracker cutouts.

The display is a project of the December Events Committee of the Cuero Development Corporation.

Free-will donations are accepted at the end of the drive-through exhibit to fund additions to the exhibit.

CUERO - Elizabeth Singletary's mother decided to stay in Cuero an extra day before heading back to Houston to see opening night of Christmas in the Park on Monday.

Singletary took her two children, along with her niece, nephew and mother, who were visiting from Houston.

"It's the second year we have come," Singletary said.

The family of four said they visit the park at least three times while the lights are on display.

"I like the colors," said 4-year-old Caiden Vasquez as she sat on her mother's lap.

New additions this year include scenes seven through 12 of the 12 Days of Christmas, and an angel with two trees.

Added exhibits each year bring the Zengerle family back.

Pam Zengerle, said she has attended ever since Christmas in the Park began 10 years ago.

"We usually come six times or more because she likes it," Pam said.

Now she brings her 4-year-old daughter, Allison Elizabeth Zengerle.

"I like the snowman and the big, big angel," said Allison Elizabeth, 4.

It has become a tradition for the Zengerles.

"We come Christmas day at night. It is a family tradition," said Allison's mother.

A butterfly at the entrance titled, "Butterfly in Flight," honors cancer survivors and those who have lost the battle of cancer. It was donated by DeWitt County Relay for Life.

Light exhibits are donated by companies, individuals and groups, said Tony Allen, a volunteer for Cuero's Christmas in the Park.

Allen also hopes to be able to put up a new riverboat exhibit after the original exhibit was vandalized earlier this month.

"We already ordered a replacement, it should be here in the beginning of December," Allen said.

The construction of the new riverboat would take about four days.

Christmas in the Park will also include a live nativity.
