What began as written dedications for homemade jewelry, ended in the pages of a Christian devotional.

Dannelle Woody, a silversmith and Victoria native who now lives in Houston, never thought she would be an author. But her words of inspiration and Biblical reflection have made it into the book "Babes with a Beatitude," which she co-authored with Linda Kozar, a writer, journalist and speaker from Houston.

The book features 366 days of short inspirational messages of hope and encouragement for modern, Christian women with a busy life.

"Any kind of woman, they just have so many things that they juggle," she said. "The Bible seems so overwhelming sometimes. This is just a quick everyday alone time with Him, and it brings a little piece of the Bible there for you."

The title of the book was drawn from a group of verses from the book of Matthew in the Bible known as the Beatitudes. Woody describes the Beatitudes as a "roadmap for Christian living."

Woody said "Babes with a Beatitude," a colorful mix of humorous and heart-felt stories and scriptures, offers readers hope.

"Even if we're going through things that are tough, God has a plan for our life, and we just have to hold on and know that he's going to take care of us," she said.

Woody said many of the stories in the book were drawn from experiences growing up in Victoria and included a dedication to her grandmother, Lucille Posey, who is no longer living.

"Her little house on Polk Street was a safe haven for people to come," she said. "She never, ever quit helping people or welcoming people into her home. So, I wrote a story about that."

Woody was reluctant to write the book, but after persistence from Kozar, she finally gave in.

"I've always written stories for the jewelry I create, but I never thought I would ever have it published," Woody said. "But Linda did. She is the driving force behind it."

The book, a colorful hardback, is smaller than most Bibles and is published by Howard Publishing, a division of Simon and Schuster. It will be available in Hastings in Victoria on Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Woody will host a signing at Long Leaf Coffee Co. in Victoria on Friday, Dec. 4.
