Wayne Beran, vice president for administration and finance at the University of Houston-Victoria, recently was named president of the Victoria Adult Literacy Council. The organization recruits and trains volunteer tutors to teach and reinforce reading skills and to work on English as a second language skills with adults.
Paula Cobler, communications manager at the University of Houston-Victoria, recently was recognized in the Colorado State University Alumni Media Festival for an article she wrote about the UHV School of Nursing. The piece, titled "The Nursing Shortage: Local school trains Sugar Land nurses," appeared in the summer 2009 edition of Sugar Land Magazine. It received an award of excellence in the competition based on scoring by the judges. Cobler holds a bachelor's degree in technical journalism from CSU.
Eunice Mesa recently was named the October Employee of the Month at the University of Houston-Victoria. She is the UHV Career Services coordinator.
