Get ready for Cyber Monday
The dust is just beginning to settle on Black Friday and retailers are now preparing for Cyber Monday, the first Monday after Thanksgiving weekend.
The term "Cyber Monday" is said to have been coined in November of 2005 by the National Retail Federation's online division, Shop.org. The story behind the name is that on Monday, people go back to work, get on the Internet, and search for online deals, all, of course, while hiding their web browsers from the boss. (Not that I'd know anything about that!)
Although Cyber Monday has been advertised as the busiest day for online shopping, there is some debate over that claim. According to an entry on Snopes.com (the leading site in debunking myths), Cyber Monday ranks about the 12th busiest e-commerce day of the year. The busiest e-shopping days take place on either Mondays or Tuesdays, a week or two before Dec. 25.
Whether it's the busiest e-commerce day or not, and even if the concept of Cyber Monday was designed to promote online shopping, there is no doubt many deals are to be found online during this time of year.
On Shop.org's Cyber Monday Web site,www.cybermonday.com, there is a list of retailers with deals for Monday. So, for those of you prepared to shop from the comfort of home in your pj's (or office, just make sure you don't get in trouble with the boss!), be sure to shop safe and buy from known retailers. And always check for discount codes on sites such as RetailMeNot.com. You can save money with additional discounts or even get free shipping. Happy shopping!
