The Victoria City-County Health Department and its sister organization, the Crossroads Public Health District, inspect places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.

FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR THE WEEK ENDING Nov. 27

B and D General Store, 9765 U.S. Highway 87 N., in Victoria. Demerits: 28. Insufficient cold hold and hot hold food temperatures. Failure to label packaged and wrapped food. Expired food in supply. Must discard temperature-controlled food in a timely manner. Failure to document time on hot hold food. Two facility or equipment violations.

Clint's South Texas Barbecue, 1002 N. Navarro St., in Victoria. Demerits: 15. Inadequate hand washing techniques. Improper handling of ready-to-eat foods. Cross-contamination of raw/cooked foods. One facility or equipment violation.

Lupita's Early Sizzlin, 906 S. Laurent St., in Victoria. Demerits: 14. Cross-contamination of raw/cooked foods. Failure to date/label refrigerated food. Two facility or equipment violations.

Subway, 3805 N. Navarro St., in Victoria. Demerits: 14. Inadequate hand washing techniques. Failure to cover frozen foods. Two facility or equipment violations.

Palmetto Restaurant, 906 W. Main St. in Edna. Inspected Nov. 17 with 26 demerits. Re-inspected Nov. 23. All violations have been corrected.

Pinto Bean, 700 W. Main St. in Edna. Inspected Nov. 17 with 33 demerits. Re-inspected Nov. 23. All violations have been corrected.

Columbus High Mart, 11943 Farm-to-Market Road, in Lolita. Inspected Nov. 10 with 23 demerits. Re-inspected Nov. 20. Follow-up required.

Fuzzy's One Stop, 4717 state Highway 35, in Palacios. Inspected March with 27 demerits. Re-inspected Nov. 16 and Nov. 25. All violations have been corrected.

El Patio, 548 W. Main St., in Port Lavaca. Inspected Nov. 16 with 20 demerits. Re-inspected Nov. 25. Follow-up required.

Merle's Barbecue, 819 state Highway 35, in Port Lavaca. Inspected Oct. 29 with 11 demerits. Re-inspected Nov. 25. All violations have been corrected.
