Man arrested after leading police on chase
PORT LAVACA - A Kansas man, driving a car reported stolen from Corpus Christi, led police and deputies on a high-speed chase through downtown Port Lavaca on Friday before he was arrested.
Calhoun County deputies were in pursuit of the vehicle on state Highway 35 when officers from the Port Lavaca Police Department joined in to attempt to stop the car, a 2008 Chevrolet Impala.
Police Sgt. Jay Lewis attempted to stop the vehicle with spike strips near Porter Road, but the driver avoided the spikes and continued to travel into downtown.
The driver, Luis Geronimo Vasquez, 28, of Junction City, Kan., traveled through the downtown area before returning to the highway.
Police were able to block him and arrest him without incident. No injuries were reported. No vehicles were damaged.
The car was tracked by Onstar.
