EDNA - The Jackson County Youth Fair this year brings entertainment, livestock and showmanship all under a new roof.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the fair and a hallmark in the event's history. The event will move to the Brackenridge Main Event Center.

"We're excited about the move and we're hoping the community comes out and supports us even there," said Dee Darilek, president of the Jackson County Youth Fair. "We're definitely going to build every year to try to fill up the facility and fill up every part of it."

The fair will kick off Saturday with a parade, pageant and little wrangler rodeo.

Livestock judging begins on Oct. 7. This year the fair received 221 entries for livestock and poultry, with 185 to be sold, and 30 commercial heifer entries with 24 to be sold.

Darilek said entries this year were lower than in past years due to the lagging economy.

"These projects are not cheap projects," she said. "When you purchase the lambs, goats, you purchase them upfront."

The fair will conclude Oct. 10 with live music, a petting zoo and a performance by the International Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show.

Darilek said she hopes the event will provide something for everyone.

"We have a petting zoo and we have a carnival," she said. "We do try to keep it family oriented. It's just something you can come to with the whole family."
