A 25-year-old man who tried in March to kidnap a woman from Victoria College was sentenced to 40 years in prison on Monday.
Brandon Keith Petering, of Victoria, pleaded guilty to aggravated kidnapping in Judge Robert Cheshire's courtroom.
On March 23, Petering tried to drag a student from the Victoria College parking lot into his car. Earlier in the day, he had grabbed a woman at the Central Park Apartments by the waist, although he did not try to kidnap her, police Lt. Jason Cross said at the time.
Shortly before the attempted kidnapping, Petering had been at a class for registered sex offenders, Cross said.
In January, Petering pleaded guilty to exposing himself to a 2-year-old girl in 2007. Petering's probation was revoked, and he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the indecency charges.
Prosecutor Eli Garza said fast work by the Victoria College Police Department made it possible to prosecute Petering.

You are absolutely right TNT. The sad part is everyone who could have stopped this from happening did nothing. Social Services were aware of the situation, CPS was aware; and the Sheriff's Dept. was called out to their house on domestic disturbances all the time. At lease once every 2 weeks. These are the people who should have stopped this. And yet it went on.
October 13, 2009 at 4:53 p.m.Dragon, this is a travesty on so many levels, this is a major part of our growing problem in society. As parents, you are given the responsibility of raising your kids to be good people, not perfect, but good. The roots of your raising run deep. I wish this would have been noticed years ago, because it might have saved a life.

In my opinion he got what he deserved! The kids with the Dudley issue caused between $750,000 and $1.25 million. Weren't they sent to TYC? Well they will be out on their 19th b-day. If they are sent to TCJD it is due to their behavior while in TYC.
October 7, 2009 at 10:58 a.m.You can say what you want about this guy. You can say he is sick, deranged, demented. Maybe you know him and maybe you don't. I knew him. I saw what he came from. You think the justice sytem was not hard enough on him. You are probably right. We or should I say the girl he tried to kidnap was lucky because one can only imagine the things he might have done to her. Probably some of the same things he had to endure growing up.She is probably lucky to be alive. As was he for surviving such an atrocious home life. Brandon's brother is also in prison for attempted murder I believe. My point is that those boys should have been protected. You say the judicial system let us down. The point is that it would not have even been a factor if Child Protective Services would have pulled these boys from that home many years ago. So many people stood back and did nothing to help them. I'm just as guilty as the rest. As a society we failed to protect him and now look what we've allowed him to become. We need to remember him and put more effort towards saving innocent children from the claws of evil.

October 6, 2009 at 3:15 p.m.10 years?!! The young boys that burned Dudley got 40 and they were just kids ... this is ridiculous!!
October 6, 2009 at 2:30 p.m.Maybe this sick minded scum will stay locked up this time. Swift work? Commited the offence of indecency in 07' and gets sentenced in January of 09', then kidnaps a women in March..
