The Yorktown Western Days Ziegfest will be Oct. 16-18. For more information, go to www.yorktowntx.com.

The annual Yorktown Western Days festival is going to be a little different this year. ZiegenBock beer has chosen it to be one of their Ziegfest music festivals, making it bigger and better than ever, event organizers said.

"Out of all the events in the state, they selected ours to become Texas' fourth Ziegfest," Melissa Armstrong, director of the Western Days Association said.

The other three Ziegfests are held in College Station/Lake Bryan, Corpus Christi and Houston, she added.

Now called the Yorktown Western Days Ziegfest, the three-day event, held this year on Oct. 16-18, will feature live music, craft and food vendors, a carnival, a parade, cook-offs, puppet shows, mutton bustin', and various contests, among numerous other activities.

Headlining the music lineup this year is Kevin Fowler. Known for his southern country sound mixed with a little rock, the Texas native has built up a large fan base with his country anthems such as "Beer, Bait, and Ammo," "The Lord Loves a Drinking Man" and "Loose, Loud and Crazy." Fowler recently released his latest album "Bring It On."

Fowler will be hitting the stage at 11 p.m. Oct. 17 out at the festival. Opening for him will be the Eli Young Band at 9 p.m. The Texas band has recently released its first national album "Jet Black & Jealous" through Universal Republic/Universal Records South.

The band first got its start at the University of North Texas in Denton, where they were all students. Having been together for eight years, the band first started making a stir when its single "When It Rains" was picked up by CMT and GAC and eventually wound up on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart.

On the first night of the festival on Oct. 16, Texas singer/songwriter Wade Bowen will hit the stage at 10 p.m.

Also performing at the festival will be Jack Levitt, Honeybrowne, Mark McKinnery, Cody Gill Band, Texas Ride, Django Walker and Two Tons of Steel.

The Yorktown Ziegfest is free to the public. For more information, go to www.yorktowntx.com.

  • Keep in mind that Turkeyfest is a non-profit organization, and the $5 entry fee (good for all day) is collected to fund scholarships for Cuero high school students and to donate to local non-profit charitable organizations. Also, Turkeyfest was created as a venue for local non-profits (Lion's Club, 4-H, etc) to host vendor booth as their yearly major fundraising opportunity. Cuero City Park is a safe, family friendly, and convinient place to host such an event.

  • I can't wait for Western days..Don't get me wrong I am a true native of Cuero and I like Turkeyfest, but it is getting bad when you have to pay just to get into everything is just crazy..To get into one end of the park you have to pay..Western Days you pay for nothing except good food and drinks and whatever else you buy arts, crafts etc...Oh and the carnival that offers wristbands for the kiddos..You don't pay to see a wonderful singer like Kevin Fowler..I think Cuero could let loose and do some of these things also..I have seen and heard alot of remarks..Turkeyfest just isn't the same since they moved it to the park..
