Alfred and Joy Hempel of Victoria celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 7, 2009 with a family dinner at Montana Mike's. The event was hosted by their children.

Joy Niesner and Alfred Hempel were married September 5, 1959 in Warda, Texas. Children of the couple are Donnie (Lisa) Hempel, Phyllis (Sonny) Quinney, and Roger (Leanne) Hempel. Grandchildren of the couple are Travis (Shannon), Trey and Laney Hempel, Taylor and Kasey Quinney, Morgyn, Falyn, and Caden Hempel.

Alfred and Joy lived their entire married life in Victoria. Alfred retired from Gulf International in 2008 after forty-nine and a half years of service. Joy retired from First Baptist Daycare in 2008 after twenty-six years of service.
