FOR MORE
Students interested are invited to attend an information session at 6 p.m. Nov. 12 in the Victoria College Health Sciences Center, Room 130.
For more information, please contact VC's Continuing Education Department at 361-582-2528.
The Victoria College is partnering with Boston Reed College in Napa, Calif., to offer a pharmacy technician program beginning in January 2010.
The new program, designed with a flexible schedule for busy adults, will offer classes from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays in the VC Health Sciences Center. The program consists of 212 classroom hours and a 120-hour internship at a pharmacy.
The need for pharmacy technicians is expected to grow by more than 30 percent over the next five years, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in packaging or mixing prescriptions, inventory control and purchasing, along with helping to maintain client records and referring clients for consultation with the pharmacist.
Students who successfully complete the pharmacy technician program will receive a certificate and be prepared to take the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam in order to be eligible to apply for registration as a pharmacy technician.
"We met with managers from several local pharmacies and they all agreed that there is a need in this community for a program that will supply qualified pharmacy technicians," said Sherri Pall, business operations manager of the VC Continuing Education Department.
Students must be at least 18 years of age and have completed high school or a GED.

Did I say I taught at VC? No, I didn't...I stated what I KNEW tuition to be at other institutions...I am merely warning people to check out the profession before taking the classes & wasting the money..there are precious few jobs & the pay isn't great..I should know as I am one. Lucky for me I didn't have to take any classes, just took the test. I taught the classes, I know that jobs are few & far between. If you have anything on your record, don't even waste your time or $$, I know people who have been refused TSBP licensing because of hot checks & MIPs...they go waaayyyy back into your history.
October 12, 2009 at 10:26 p.m.victoria college isnt a private school
October 12, 2009 at 9:42 p.m.I don't know the link...I worked there as an instructor...I really don't care if you believe me or not. This was/is a technical school & the government was paying most of the students tuition. You can take the course through the mail for a couple hundred bucks & not have to work for free...I don't advise taking this course through a private institution.
October 12, 2009 at 9:37 p.m.link to said program ?
i have a hard believing 12,500 to 15,000 tuition costs
October 12, 2009 at 9:32 p.m.You are not taking a state test you will take the PTCB test which is national, the you can register with TSBP
October 12, 2009 at 9:14 p.m.I taught the program at a private intitution & the cost was 12,000-15000. It was the opposite of uneducated.
October 12, 2009 at 8:38 p.m.another vicad poster making uneducated, unreasoned statements
October 12, 2009 at 8:04 p.m.VBB...where did your figures of $12,000 - $15,000 come from??? Did you do any type of research before posting that? Geez....

The cost of the new pharmacy technician program at VC is $2,395 for tuition and books.
The program is meant to prepare you for the PTCB exam. Also, the program's 120-hour externship gives students hands-on experience that comes in handy when searching for a job.
If you are interested in becoming a pharmacy technician, I encourage you to attend the information session at VC on Nov. 12.
October 12, 2009 at 4:21 p.m.Alvin Community College offers it for 2500.00.
October 11, 2009 at 10:48 p.m.Couple? Try roughly $12,000- $15,000 for this course.
October 11, 2009 at 7:56 p.m.Its not necessary to take a course and pay a couple of thousand dollars. All is needed is to buy the PTCB book and take the state test on your own.
October 11, 2009 at 5:08 p.m.Before anyone signs up for this program I would first look at the need in the marketplace & how much the jobs pay. These programs are very expensive & if one does not find a job they are still on the hook for the loan. Also, make sure you record is clean....State Board will reject anyone for any criminal history, misdemeanors even.
