The Texas AgriLife Extension Service of DeWitt County and the DeWitt County Soil and Water Conservation District are sponsoring a five-hour continuing education event on Thursday, Oct. 22 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, located north of Cuero off of U.S. Highway 183.
Registration will begin at 7 a.m. with the program beginning at 8 a.m. and concluding at 1 p.m. A $10 registration fee, which includes refreshments, will be charged. Lunch will not be served.
Topics and guest speakers for the day include: "Range and Pasture Herbicide Update," Charlie Grymes, DuPont crop protection representative, and Benny Martinez, Dow AgroSciences representative; "Forages for South Texas," Jamie Foster, Texas AgriLife research assistant professor of forage agronomy; "Texas Pesticide Laws and Regulations," Greg Baker, Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide inspector; and "Emerging Issues in the Beef Cattle Industry," Joe Paschal, Texas AgriLife Extension Service livestock specialist.
Five total CEU's will be offered for pesticide applicator holders. Two hours will be in laws and regulations, and one hour will be in integrated pest management. For more information contact the DeWitt County Extension Office at 361-275-0816.

DeWitt County Pecan Show is Nov. 16-17
The DeWitt County Pecan Show will be Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 16-17 at St. Michael's Catholic Church Parish Hall in Cuero. The awards banquet and pecan program will start at 7 p.m. on Nov. 17.
All pecan producers and other interested people are invited to attend. The cost is $8 per person which includes a barbecue meal. An educational program will be presented at the banquet.
Pecan entries are open to DeWitt, Victoria, Lavaca, Goliad and Karnes counties. The entries need to be brought by the DeWitt County Extension Office by 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 16, or dropped off at the St. Michael's Catholic Church Parish Hall by 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17.
A Pecan Food Show will be on Monday, Nov. 16. Information on the food show can be picked up at the county extension office. A pecan pie contest will beheld with the winners from the youth and adult divisions receiving a $25 cash prize. Food show entries will go on sale to the public from 4 to 6 p.m. that afternoon.
A Children's Poster Contest for ages 6-12 will also be conducted. Money will be awarded to three places. Information on the poster contest is available at the extension office.
The DeWitt County Extension Education Clubs will be hold a soup and sandwich luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17. Drinks and desert will also be available. Free-will donations will be accepted for each meal.
