'Bread Lady' not loafing at Market Days
Riverside Park event draws people looking for bargains

Business was steady at Saturday's Market Days for "The Bread Lady."
Linda Terry Jostes started baking and selling specialty breads full-time in 1999. Banana nut bread, German chocolate cake, pumpkin nut bread and lemon pound cake comprise some of the varieties she is known for.
Jostes gave up a career in education to do what she loves most: baking, which she had done as a hobby for 30 years prior to starting her own business, Made From Scratch Homemade and Specialty Breads.
She said she doesn't regret leaving her job as a teaching assistant and likes being her own boss.
Jostes operates her business out of Mathis. She sells her goods at market days all over the region and also makes drop-ins to area businesses.
She acquired the nickname "The Bread Lady" going in and out of businesses in Corpus Christi and Kingsville, she said.
"I walk in, and they go 'Oh, the bread lady's here.' And they'd get all excited," Jostes said. "They're ready for their dessert."
Market Days at Riverside Park drew in many attendees on a windy yet temperate day.
Ronnie Meinke, despite being a long-time resident of Victoria, had never been to Victoria's Market Days until Saturday.
"We just decided to come out, enjoy the weather, meet some people and see if we can find some bargains," Meinke said with a chuckle.
Lorraine Turner said the weather conditions were "perfect" for the event.
Turner, a counselor, said her strategy at market days is browsing first and then buying what she liked the most.
"You don't want to buy too early and then see something later that you wish you would have spent your money on instead," she said.
For Jostes, her most popular item of the day was her lemon pound cake.

Her bake goods are great and represents the rich tapestry of cultures the crossroads in known for. The love and attention shown in such quality goods- speaks to the entrepreneurial spirit that makes this country great. In this area I am very much a Republican. I know the small merchant who sales tamales out of an ice cooler most likely does not have a 100,000 commercial kitchen to make their fine goods, but I think it is my choice to buy them any way. I know were to get the cookie cutter stuff but I prefer to buy from a small operation they put their heart and soul in their goods.
