The Victoria City-County Health Department and its sister organization, the Crossroads Public Health District, inspect places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun counties.
In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.
Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.

The Cove at Victoria College, 2200 E. Red River St., in Victoria. Demerits: 11. Out-of-date food. Failure to document prepared food out. One facility and equipment violation.

Bay Side Skillet, 102 W. Bay Ave., in Seadrift. Demerits: 9. Insufficient cold hold food temperature. Failure to discard prepared food in a timely manner. No facility or equipment violations.

Memorial High School Cafeteria-Senior Campus, 1103 Sam Houston Drive, in Victoria. Demerits: 4. Cross-contamination of raw/cooked food. No facility or equipment violations.
Longhorn Saloon, 1301 N. Ben Jordan St., in Victoria; and Beijing Garden, 113 S. Main St., in Victoria. Demerits: 3.
Aloe Elementary School, 62 Chaparral Drive, in Victoria; Amour Adult Day and Healthcare Center, 114 Sam Houston Drive, in Victoria; Nazareth Academy Daycare, 1104 W.
