    A Poem by Cindy Cerny

Sometimes I sit and ponder over

    the beauty all around us

Sometimes I try to reason why

    we're always in a hurry

Sometimes I wish that time stood still

so we would stop and smell the roses

Sometimes I wonder how and why

    that darkness turns to light

Sometimes I gaze up in the sky

    for visions I know not

Sometimes I pray that happy thoughts

    remove all sadness though

    Sometimes I often hesitate why

    respect isn't always given

Sometimes I wish mistakes weren't made

but this is how we grow

Sometimes my mind drifts far from here

    like my presence isn't near

Sometimes I really feel this gift

is what gets me through the day

    Bringing "Peace" & "Tranquility"

    every step of the way!

    IF YOU GO

WHAT: Book signing for Cindy Cerny's book of poetry "Through the Eyes of Innocence"

    WHEN: 2 - 4 p.m. on Saturday

    WHERE: Hastings, Victoria.

Cindy Cerny never used to write. Sure, she'd excelled in English in school, but she never really used to write on her own.

Then, three years ago, her father was killed in a car accident. And the words started flowing.

"When he died, I prepared his eulogy and wrote a poem for the memory cards and it just went from there," Cerny, the city secretary for El Campo, said. "Now, when I can't sleep, I get up and write."

What started out as a way to get through her grief ended in Cerny becoming a published author. Her collection of poems, "Through the Eyes of Innocence," has been published by Blue Crab Press, a publishing division of Smooth Sailing Press in Spring.

On Saturday, Cerny, 46, will have a book signing from 2-4 p.m. at Hastings in Victoria.

"All the poems are based in reality, but they're also inspirational," she said. "They were sitting in a binder on my shelf and my family hounded me to try to get them published. They have really been supportive along this whole journey."

The book, which Cerny describes as a coffee table book, is illustrated with photos, many taken by local photographers. Cerny's words aptly capture in verse what the photographers have immortalized on film, according to a Smooth Sailing Press news release.

"The book is dedicated to the people who really touched my life and I just hope this book touches other people's lives," Cerny said.

Cerny is working on her second book, "Celebrations to Treasure," which will be released in the spring or summer of 2010.

"Through the Eyes of Innocence" is available at Hastings and online at Barnes & Nobles and through the publishing company. It is also available at several stores in El Campo, including Heavenly Helpers, Prairie Rose and Shabby Chic.
