Bad weather caused the search for two missing Naval pilots to be delayed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Nayo Gallegos said the search will continue at sunrise, which is forecast for about 7:40 a.m. Friday.

A Coast Guard helicopter and jets have been searching the area between Port O'Connor and Port Aransas since Wednesday when the two pilots lost contact with the control tower.

The total area searched has been 4,500 square miles.

The two pilots were doing routine training when communication was lost and their T-34C Turbomentor disappeared off radar around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Their last known location was near Matagorda Island.

The Navy control tower in Corpus Christi notified the Coast Guard at 4 p.m.

Lt. Brett Dawson, public affairs officer, chief of Naval air training, said they are hoping for the best and their priority is to find the pilots.

Families of the two pilots have been informed, Dawson said. A news conference is scheduled for noon Friday at the Corpus Christi Naval base, where the pilots' names will be released.
