Scare on the Square
6 to 8 p.m.
with games, candy, trinket booths, concessions, pumpkin painting, Fort Fright, hay ride and a costume contest.
At 8:30 p.m. "The Spiderwick Chronicles" will be shown outdoors on the square. People can bring their lawn chairs and blankets.
GOLIAD - Downtown streets of Goliad will be transformed for a Scare on the Square and the fort will become Fort Fright.
The annual Scare on the Square will take place Halloween evening on Market Street.
Organizations and business from all over Goliad will be on Market Street taking part in the Halloween festivities.
"It's all part of the downtown revitalization program," said Erika Bochat of the Main Street organization in Goliad.
Bochat said the street is closed and games and concession stands are placed along Market Street.
"The merchants sit in front of their stores and give out candy," Bochat said.
Close to 750 people attended last years' Scare on the Square with 125, participating in the costume contest.
Last year's winner for most creative was a replica of the Jack in the Box's head.
Bochat added that they have categories from creative to most scary.
Most games are free, but if there is a cost it may be a quarter and concessions are 50 cents
"We want to make sure families feel like they can come out and participate," Bochat said about the low cost.
Other activities include a hay ride and pumpkin painting.
After the event, families can watch the outdoor movie, "The Spiderwick Chronicles." The movie will be projected on Dr. Daniel Garza's building wall.
Bochat said participants should bring lawn chairs and blankets to watch the movie.
Bochat said the event has been going on for more than 10 years. The movie was added within the last two years.
"It just gives people the opportunity to be part of a great place," Bochat said.
