PORT LAVACA - Gary Broz, Port Lavaca's outgoing city manager, was honored Friday for his nine years of service to the community.

State Rep. Todd Hunter presented a plaque to Broz during the Port Lavaca Rotary Club meeting at Days Inn.

Other Rotarians in attendance playfully heckled the long-time Rotarian and city manager. "Say pothole!" people shouted as Broz posed for pictures with Hunter.

Broz said he was thankful for his time in Port Lavaca.

"I enjoyed being here," Broz said. "It's time for the next step in my life."

Broz worked his last day as city manager Friday. He assumes Liberty's city manager position on Monday.

Interim City Manager Skip Noe started work this past Monday to ease the transition.

Noe, a native of St. Louis, served as Corpus Christi's city manager from 2003 to 2008. He has more than 32 years experience as city manager, he said.

Noe will serve as interim city manager until the city manager hiring committee hires a permanent one.

Should Noe find permanent work elsewhere, he must give the city 30 days notice to find another acting city manager.
