Christi Cornel of TrustTexas Bank SSB in Cuero has been selected to receive the Rising Star Award presented annually by the Independent Bankers Association of Texas (IBAT).
Cornel, Vice President at the Cuero bank, will be recognized as part of the 35th IBAT Convention in San Antonio. An independent panel of judges selected the two-year employee in the Rising Star category for her involvement within the community as well as role of leadership in the bank.
She co-created a group of investors called "Aggies for Youth" that provides scholarships for local 4-H students. She serves on the council of DeWitt County Texas A&M Students and is involved in local Habitat for Humanity. She is also one of the founders of TrustTexas Bank Tuesdays where she and several employees teach financial literacy at local schools. Cornel is also one of the youngest employees to achieve the title of assistant vice president.
John Meade recently was named the September Employee of the Month at the University of Houston-Victoria. He is the senior maintenance technician in facilities and has worked at UHV since 2001. Meade received a framed certificate and a $50 gift card.
The marketing campaign unveiled by First Victoria National Bank using real butterflies to "Watch the Evolution of Banking" turned out to be pure Gold to the judges in the Best of Community Banking Awards conducted annually by the Independent Bankers Association of Texas (IBAT). The independent panel selected the unusual campaign for a Gold Medal in Marketing and bank President and CEO Russell Marshall was on hand to accept the award during the 35th annual IBAT Convention in San Antonio in October.
Karen Hagan, associate professor of history at The Victoria College, presented a paper earlier this month entitled "Mangled and Twisted: An Alternative Look at Twentieth-Century Texas" at the 27th annual Gulf South History and Humanities Conference in Pensacola, Florida. Hagan's presentation focused on the history of modern Texas from the perspective of disaster, citing examples of some of the worst natural disasters in American history that have occurred in Texas.
Jamie Lincke recently was hired as the special events assistant at the University of Houston-Victoria. Her duties include assisting in the planning and implementing the many events hosted by UHV.
Jean Jurica recently was hired as the training coordinator at the University of Houston-Victoria Small Business Development Center. Her duties include coordinating the various no- and low-cost training programs the SBDC offers to area businesses and entrepreneurs, as well as special events and conferences.
Kacey Lindemann recently was hired as a senior business adviser at the University of Houston-Victoria Small Business Development Center. Her duties include offering free business consulting services to area entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs.
Pama Hencerling, Chief Juvenile Probation Officer for Victoria County was recently re-appointed by Vicki Spriggs, Executive Director of the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission, to serve on the Texas Advisory Council on Juvenile Services. Hencerling was first appointed to that board in 1999. She has been the juvenile chief of Victoria County for 24 years and is the department head of the Juvenile Justice Center in Victoria.
Mr. Rooter Plumbing, in Victoria, is recognized in Franchise Times Top 200 list for 2009. This annual ranking lists the top 200 franchises based on worldwide sales. Mr. Rooter appears in slot No.184. The Top 200 list is featured in the magazine's October issue and at franchisetimes.com.
