PORT LAVACA - Calhoun's girls and boys teams each took first place at the Calhoun Beach Invitational.

Sandies Tesia Gonzales and Hillarie Hill placed in the top 10, coming in fifth place at 13:31 and ninth at 13:41 respectively.

Paul Hansel of Cuero led the way in the boys' division with a time of 16:39. Memorial's Ralpheo Ramirez came in third with a time of 17:33.

Lady Flyers take seventh

SAN MARCOS - The St. Joseph Lady Flyers finished seventh at the Texas State Invitational on Saturday.

Freshman Nicole Sontheimer lead the Lady Flyers team with a two-mile run time of 14:28. Sontheimer battled for the lead for the first mile of the race before being overtaken in the second mile of the run by the competition.

Sontheimer finished 21st, Emily Janak posted a time of 15:52 for 40th, Victoria Parades 44th in 16:03, freshman Amanda Groenhuyzen finished 47th in 16:09, Ally Lozano ended 57th in 17:31, Maddie Franklin 67th in 17:44, Stephanie Kasper 68th in 17:52, Devin Servantes finished 87th in 21:24 and Katherine Scharr in 21:27 for 88th.

The Lady Flyers scored 172 team points. Giddings won the girls' 1A-3A divisional class.

For the Flyers, Chris Mason paced the team to a 10th-place finish by running his three mile race in 20:24 for 50th place. Jonathan Hernandez came in 65th at 20:56, Bracen Eichhorn in 74th, 21:36, Ansel Hoang in 81st, 22:02, Humberto "Tito" Sandigo 83rd in 22:05, Chris Kisalus in 84th, 22:10, Chris Wenske in 91th, 23:06, Sam Polland 93rd in 23:20, John Seale in 95th, 23:37, Anthony Cantu in 96th in 23:41 and Chaston Horelka 101st in 24:56. The Flyers scored 264 total team points.

Ana Esquivel took first with 14:02, Brandee Garcia second at 14:28, Eileen Martinez sixth at 14:54, Lacey Baldez seventh at 14:59 and Natalie Cabrera took 10th at 15:11.

The boys were led by first-place finisher Anthony Longoria at 18:38, second place was Rod Jackson at 18:48 and Martin Longoria took third at 19:04.
