Yorktown is off to its first 2-0 start since 2004 and the Wildcats have created plenty of excitement along the way.

After opening the season with a 28-20 overtime win against Hallettsville Sacred Heart, Yorktown went on the road and pulled out a 21-20 win over Three Rivers last Friday night.

"We've had mistakes," Yorktown coach Kerry Huddleston said. "There are things we're doing we need to correct. But the kids have stepped it up when they had to and that's a good sign."

The Wildcats forced four turnovers against Three Rivers, a team that beat them 49-0 last season.

As a result, Yorktown was selected as the Class 1A Army Strong Team of the Week by Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine.

"We've got a long ways to go and it's a long season," Huddleston said. "But they've executed when they've needed to. They've got the job done at the wire."

Yorktown will be tested again this week when it visits undefeated Flatonia.
