Sex offender sentenced to 45-years in prison

A judge revoked a 55-year-old Alabama man's probation after he failed to show up for appointments with his probation officer for nearly two years.

Howard Lee Dykes will serve 45 years in prison, Judge Robert Cheshire decided on Wednesday. Dykes pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child in 2005 in Victoria and was sentenced to probation.

Dykes was allowed to move to Alabama, but quit showing up to court-ordered appointments there in October of 2007, said assistant district attorney Eddie Wilkinson. Dykes violated many other terms of his probation, Wilkinson said.

    If it were D.W.I or not paying child support he would have been incarcerated long ago, but child molestation....If it were my child, justice would be severe and quick.

    The idiot. Society gave him a chance to redeem himself for the cost of checking in and paying a few fees. He in turn gave the court the finger. Now he will die in prison and feel that he has been treated unfairly. How sad.

    Yo, Betsy...did you stop to think that perhaps a warrant was issued shortly after he absconded supervision and that he may have been a fugitive for 2 years?

    October 2007 and we are almost to October 2009 --two darn years too slow. I agree, how many victims could be out there. Which prison, with just a few words passed, I am sure there could be a warm welcome for a child predator....
