SMU 35, UAB 33

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - B.L. Mitchell threw for 353 yards and three touchdowns and Southern Methodist held off Alabama-Birmingham's rally to win 35-33 on Saturday.

Mitchell, who completed 28 of 47 passes, had touchdown throws of 44, 32 and 6 yards. His third TD pass went to Cole Beasley to give the Mustangs (2-0, 1-0 Conference USA) a 28-7 lead in the second quarter.

Sam Houston State 48, North Dakota State 45

HUNTSVILLE - Freshman Miguel Antonio kicked a 24-yard field goal with 26 seconds remaining to give Sam Houston State a 48-45 non-conference victory Saturday over North Dakota State.

Sam Houston drove 72 yards in 10 plays for the game-winning score.

Blake Joseph completed 24 of 36 passes for 482 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bearkats (1-1).

Trinity 22, Texas Lutheran 21

SEGUIN - Garrett Biel kicked a 34-yard field goal on the final play of the game to lift Trinity to a win over Texas Lutheran at Matagorda Stadium.

Trinity had pulled within 21-19 on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Robert Davidson to Cory Scherr with 5:45 left in the fourth quarter.

Anthony Smith of Bay City scored a touchdown for Texas Lutheran on 1-yard run in the second quarter.
