Police have no explanation for a bizarre spike in violence late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

"It was an unusual night of violence," Police Chief Bruce Ure said. According to police reports, officers were called to the following incidents:

10:18 p.m. -A hit-and-run wreck was reported in the 3300 block of Delmar Drive. Officers saw a Chevrolet pickup with front-end damage at a gas station nearby. The driver, a 23-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. A 19-year-old male passenger was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana. A 37-year-old male passenger was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication.

10:30 p.m. - A 28-year-old Victoria man went to Citizens Medical Center to get treatment for a stab wound in his thigh. He told police he was walking in the 1500 block of North Laurent Street when a man began to follow him and eventually stabbed him.

10:50 p.m. -A 28-year-old woman was attacked in her home in the 900 block of Pecan Street. She had a restraining order against Ronnie Flanigan, the 44-year-old Placedo man charged with attacking her. She told police he attacked her in her bedroom and tried to drag her to the kitchen where he said would "slit her throat."

The woman hit her attacker in the head with a vase and fled. Police later found Flanigan in 900 block of Pine Street, where he had injuries similar to those the victim described.

"We're just very thankful that the victim had the wherewithal and survival skills to fight back and to get help," Ure said.

2:30 a.m. - A teenaged girl came to Citizens Medical Center for treatment of multiple stab wounds. She would not tell police what happened. Officers later determined she was likely attacked at the Regency Inn at 2605 Houston Highway. There, officers found lots of blood and a knife in a room.
