Editor, the Advocate:
This is in response to Cynthia Clark's letter (Viewpoints, Sept. 8).
The experiences in which you have taught in the public school system are showing through. You may lump all of the children into one curriculum, even though each child is an individual with different thoughts, learning styles and talents.
Some children may flourish under that curriculum style, but others do not. It worries me that you, as a teacher, have the same viewpoint as others who are against the president because of his race. It is flavored with "guilty until proven innocent." Is that the attitude a teacher should have? It would worry me to have my child under the guidance of such a teacher.
Please do not presume to tell Victoria about my concerns. There may be some who do not like President Obama because of his race, but I do not care if our president is green, purple, blue or any other color. I do care about his methods of running this country and where he is leading this nation. He has my respect for he is the president of the United States. No more, no less. Just because he holds the most powerful position in the world does not mean that I am going to roll over and agree with every word that comes out of his mouth. I may not agree with his methods, policies, beliefs, ideas and actions, but that is my right as an American-born voter.
The government should not have the influence over school children that it does. It is for the parents to decide whether or not for God to bless them. This is not the decision of the government, teachers or school board to make. You may teach these children and have them longer than parents do in a day, but that does not give you the right to push those boundaries. It undermines the authority of the parents.
We, as our daughter's parents, will be the one's standing before God, accountable for whether we our fulfilling our proper roles and guiding by His standards. When choosing a direction, we will always choose God's.
Debra Rodriguez, Goliad

Outstanding letter!
September 20, 2009 at 6:18 a.m.I do not understand why this citizen's letter to the editor was not published as she wrote it~it was not edited for length. There are at least two points that failed to make sense because of the Advocate's poor editing.
It does make me wonder how often this happens?
September 19, 2009 at 7:42 p.m.Amen! Thank you, Debra.
