Navy Seaman Alyssa M. Salinas, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. She is the daughter of Joe G. Salinas of Victoria and a 2009 graduate of Robstown High School.
Pvt. John Michael Torres, of Port Lavaca, completed basic training for the United States Marine Corps in San Diego, Calif., on Aug. 28. He is the son of Felix and Angela Barrientes of Port Lavaca and the grandson of Mary Bernal and Junior Garcia and Felix Barrientes, all of Port Lavaca, and Virginia and Marshall Reynolds and Bill Carpenter of North Carolina. Torres is a 2008 graduate of Calhoun High School.
Army National Guard 1st. Sgt. Juan Benavides Jr., was awarded the Order of Saint Maurice in the Rank of Centurion on Aug. 15, for 22 years of distinguished meritorious service to the Army Infantry branch for gallant demonstration and devotion to the principles of selfless service embodied by the American Infantryman. Benavides is the son of Caroline Hernandez, of Victoria, and the husband of Tila E. Benavidez. He is a 1985 graduate of Stroman High School.
Keith E. Muschalek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Muschalek, of Yorktown, was promoted to colonel in the United States Army on July 31. The ceremony took place at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and was attended by his wife, Robin, and their two children, Mason, and Madison. Also in attendance was Robin's father, Edward "Boyd" Mac Roberts, of Horseheads, N.Y.
He is a 1981 graduate of Pasadena High School in Pasadena, a 1987 graduate of Texas A&I University in Kingsville, and a 1994 graduate of the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif.
Navy Seaman Recruit Aaron D. Vasquez, son of Norma L. and Amado M. Vasquez, of Victoria, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Vasquez is a 2009 graduate of Memorial High School.
Navy Seaman Recruit Kurt T. Jansky, son of Pamela K. Venglar of Boling, and Edward P. Jansky of Round Rock, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Jansky is a 2002 graduate of Westwood High School in Austin.
Jake K. Wright graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps, Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as "Operation Warrior Forge," at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Wash. Wright is the son of Rick A. Wright of Rosharon and Kelley J. Harrell, of Victoria. He graduated in 2002 from Memorial High School in Victoria and received a bachelor's degree in 2008 from Texas State University at San Marcos. He is a student at Texas State University.
