Candelario and Hermida De La Garza Sr. of Victoria celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on September 19, 2009 with a family dinner at the C.W.V. Their children hosted the event.
Hermida Rodriguez and Candelario De La Garza were married on September 19, 1949, at St. Dennis Church at the O'Connor River Ranch.
Candelario and Hermida have 5 children; Candelario De La Garza Jr. (Sue) of Victoria, Christina Hinojosa (Rolando) of Texas City, Robert De La Garza of Oklahoma City, Victor De La Garza of Victoria, and Belinda Santos (Manuel) of Victoria. They also have ten grandchildren, 2 deceased, and 18 great-grandchildren, 1 deceased.
Candelario was employed for over forty years at the place of his birth, The O'Connor Brothers River Ranch. He enjoys bingo, playing the lotto and talking to anyone, who listens, about the "good old days." Candelario also enjoys watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren run and play, and he loves to hear them laugh.
Minnie joined the work force after raising her children and retired after thirty years with Citizens Hospital as a dietician. She enjoys bingo, playing the lotto, and watching "Law and Order." Minnie also enjoys making tamales, tortillas, and chicken and dumplings for her family.
